Special Arrangement for Leave for RPg students due to the COVID-19 Pandemic

Message from Graduate School

Dear Students,

In view of the latest COVID-19 situation, a flexible approach in handling leave applications for research postgraduate students will be adopted from now until June 30, 2022.

Non-local research postgraduate students may, with the supervisor’s support, choose to leave Hong Kong and return home to continue their studies through electronic communications with their supervisor(s). These students will be exempted from taking study leave (except for awardees of the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) – see below). However, students who prefer to take a break and suspend their studies are advised to take non-study leave following the usual leave procedures. Please discuss your study plan with your supervisor.

For HKPF awardees, please follow the usual procedures to apply for study leave through the RPg Leave Application System and observe the HKPFS terms and conditions concerning leave. Please note that applications by HKPF awardees to spend an aggregate period of more than 183 days or an aggregate period exceeding 90 consecutive days outside Hong Kong for academic/research activities in the three-year fellowship period will be considered by the Research Grants Council (RGC) on a case-by-case basis.

Please do not hesitate to contact the Graduate School if you have any questions. Please stay vigilant and healthy.

Professor Max Shen,
Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) and
Dean, Graduate School
