President’s Message on Community Vaccination Centre at Loke Yew Hall

Message from Professor Xiang Zhang, President and Vice-Chancellor

Dear HKU Family,

Hong Kong faces an escalating crisis, as we reach a pivotal point in the pandemic. At this deeply concerning time, we must work together and support one another in battling the fast-spreading virus. Allow me to be clear: HKU has a duty to the community, and we must do all we can to protect lives — especially our elders and our children.

To accelerate the city’s vaccination rate, HKU is opening a Community Vaccination Centre (CVC) at Loke Yew Hall, providing 2,000 vaccine doses a day. This health service will be a concrete manifestation of HKU’s shared values and our commitment to serving the public good.

The CVC will be set up and managed by medical professionals in line with the highest infectious disease control standards. I am most grateful to Professor Ivan Hung and the HKU team, as well as alumni and other friends, for quickly bringing this urgent initiative to reality.

Throughout HKU’s history, our members have responded to the needs of their times. Today, we have a critical opportunity to use our expertise to serve the Hong Kong community and to lead. We will keep you updated as our plans continue to move forward.

Lastly, please take good care of yourselves and each other.

Professor Xiang Zhang
President and Vice-Chancellor
