On 1 October 2021, we were informed that 11 students from the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine had been in close contact with a non-HKU person who subsequently tested positive for the COVID-19 infection following a flight to London. The HKU students were sent to a quarantine centre by the CHP. Additional cleaning and disinfection have been arranged at all the affected areas.

September 30, 2021

On 30 September 2021, we were informed that one student from RC Lee Hall had been in close contact with a non-HKU person who is tested positive of COVID-19 infection. The student was sent to a quarantine centre by the CHP. Compulsory testing has been arranged for all students residing on the same floor as the student concerned. Additional cleaning and disinfection have been arranged at the affected areas.

September 29, 2021

On 29 September 2021, we were informed that one student from the Faculty of Social Sciences had been in close contact with a non-HKU person who is tested positive of COVID-19 infection. The student was sent to a quarantine centre by the CHP. The student visited the Main Building on 27 September. Additional cleaning and disinfection have been arranged at the affected areas.

April 14, 2021

On 14 April 2021, we were informed that one student from the HKU Business School had been in close contact with a non-HKU person who is tested positive of COVID-19 infection. The student was tested negative of COVID-19 and was sent to a quarantine centre by the CHP. The student last attended a class on 7 April with 20 other students in Cyberport. All people had been wearing face masks, and social distancing and use of alcohol rub were strictly followed at all times.

We were also informed that one staff member from the Faculty of Arts was sent to a quarantine centre by the CHP. The University will work with CHP closely on the contact tracing of the close contact case and will inform the University community of any updates accordingly.

March 18, 2021

On 18 March 2021, we were informed that one staff member from the Faculty of Medicine had been classified as a close contact of the Ursus fitness centre cluster. The staff member was tested negative on 17 March and was sent to a quarantine centre by the CHP. In the past 14 days, the staff member had been to William M.W. Mong Block for multiple days. Cleaning and disinfection have been arranged in the affected areas.

March 17, 2021

On 17 March 2021, we were informed that one staff member from the Faculty of Science had been classified as a close contact of the Ursus fitness centre cluster. The staff member was tested negative on 13 March and was sent to a quarantine centre by the CHP. In the past 14 days, the staff member had been to James Lee Building for multiple days and had a meal in the Senior Common Room on 11 March. Cleaning and disinfection have been arranged in the affected areas.

On 16 March 2021, we were informed that six staff members from the Faculty of Science and one staff member from the Faculty of Arts had been classified as close contacts of the Ursus fitness centre cluster. All were sent to quarantine centres by the CHP. The University will work with CHP closely on the contact tracing of the close contact cases and will inform the University community of any updates accordingly.

On 15 March 2021, we were informed that eight members from the Faculty of Science had been classified as close contacts of the Ursus fitness centre cluster. Among them, two members visited Hui Oi Chow Science Building in the past 14 days. All were sent to quarantine centres by the CHP. The University will work with CHP closely on the contact tracing of the close contact cases and will inform the University community of any updates accordingly. March 13, 2021

On 13 March 2021, we were informed that one staff member from the Faculty of Social Sciences, one staff member from the Faculty of Science and two students from St. John’s College had been classified as close contacts of the Ursus fitness centre cluster. The staff member from Social Sciences Faculty had undergone testing for COVID-19, with results pending. The staff member from Science Faculty was tested negative on 13 March, and the two students were tested negative on 12 March. All four members were sent to quarantine centres by the CHP on 13 March. Additional cleaning and disinfection have been carried out in the affected areas.

March 13, 2021

On 12 March 2021, we were informed that one ex-HKU staff member had been classified as a close contact of the Ursus fitness centre cluster. The individual was sent to a quarantine centre by the CHP on 10 March and was tested negative on 11 March. The individual visited the Kadoorie Biological Sciences Building on multiple days, the Senior Common Room on 5 March and had lunch with three HKU members on 8 March. Two of the staff members were tested negative and one with results pending. Additional cleaning and disinfection have been carried out in the affected areas.

In the evening of 11 March 2021, we were informed that an additional three staff members had been classified as close contacts of the Ursus fitness centre cluster. So far two of them tested negative of COVID-19. All of them will be sent to quarantine centres by the CHP. Additional cleaning and disinfection will be arranged in the affected areas. The University will work with CHP closely on the contact tracing of the close contact cases and will inform the University community of any updates accordingly.

March 11, 2021

On 11 March 2021, we were informed that one staff member from the Faculty of Science had been classified as a close contact of the Ursus fitness centre cluster. The staff member was on campus on 9 March, where the staff concerned visited the medical clinic of the University Health Service (UHS), and had a meeting with a student in the Kadoorie Biological Sciences Building. The staff member has shown no symptoms of COVID-19 so far and will be sent to a quarantine centre by CHP today. The student had undergone testing for COVID-19, with results pending. Cleaning and disinfection have been arranged at the affected areas.

January 26, 2021

On 26 January 2021, we were informed that four students and two staff members from the Faculty of Engineering had been in close contact with another student from the same Faculty who is tested positive of COVID-19 infection (reported as a confirmed case on 25 January). All six were sent for testing and all of them tested negative. They will be sent to a quarantine centre by CHP.

January 24, 2021

On 24 January 2021, we were informed that one student from the Faculty of Engineering had been in close contact with a family member who is tested positive of COVID-19 infection. The student visited Haking Wong building on 14 and 21 January, Innovation Wing on 15 and 19 January, and Swire Canteen on 21 January. The student will be sent to a quarantine centre by CHP today. Additional cleaning and disinfection have been arranged at the affected areas.

January 14, 2021

On 14 January 2021, we were informed that one staff member from the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine had been in close contact with a non-HKU person on 9 January who is tested positive of COVID-19 infection.

The staff concerned went back to work in an off-campus office on 12 and 13 January and had on a face mask at all times except during lunch. The staff member had no close contact with any students or staff members. The staff member was sent to a quarantine centre on 14 January, and had been tested negative for COVID-19.

January 12, 2021

On 12 January 2021, we were informed of a confirmed case of COVID-19 infection concerning a visitor who had been to the HKU medical campus in the afternoon of 8 January 2021. The confirmed case was tested positive on 12 January. The visitor was at the William MW Mong Building on 8 January and had contact with three of our staff members.

All people had been wearing face masks, and social distancing and use of alcohol rub were strictly followed at all times.

Additional cleaning and disinfection have been carried out in the affected areas. The three staff members who had been in contact with the visitor that day are now working from home, and two of their test results are negative, with the remaining one pending.

On 28 December 2020, we were informed that one staff from the Registry had been in close contact with an individual who is tested positive of COVID-19 infection. The staff had not returned to campus since the contact with the confirmed case and is now under compulsory quarantine.

December 11, 2020

On 11 December 2020, we were informed that one student from Lee Shau Kee Hall had been in close contact with a family member who is tested positive of COVID-19 infection. The student visited Chi Wah Learning Commons and Alfafa Cafe on 2 December and had breakfast with some hallmates on 3 December. The student will be sent to a quarantine centre by CHP today. Additional cleaning and disinfection had been undertaken at the Hall and affected areas.

On 7 December 2020, we were informed that one student from the Faculty of Law had been in close contact with a family member who is a preliminary confirmed case of COVID-19 infection. The student will be sent to a quarantine centre by the CHP in the coming days.

The student visited the Academic Services Office at Run Run Shaw Building and Lui Che Woo Library on 28 November. Additional cleaning and disinfection have been arranged at the affected areas.

On 7 December 2020, we were informed that one student from the Faculty of Architecture had been in close contact with two family members who are confirmed cases of COVID-19 infection. The student last returned to campus on 20 November and attended an off-campus class activity with other students and teachers on 21 November. The student will be sent to a quarantine centre today.

On 5 December 2020, we were informed that 12 students from Lee Chi Hung Hall, Lee Hysan Hall, St. John’s College and Starr Hall had been in close contact with a non-HKU person who is a confirmed case of COVID-19 infection. The contact took place during an off-campus sports training programme on 28 November. All 12 students showed no symptoms so far and will be sent to a quarantine centre by the CHP in the coming days. Additional cleaning and disinfection have been arranged in the affected areas.

November 30, 2020

On 30 November 2020, we were informed that one staff member from the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine had been in close contact with a non-HKU person on 23 November who is a confirmed case of COVID-19 infection. The staff member was sent to a quarantine centre on 25 November, and had been tested negative for COVID-19.

Additional cleaning and disinfection have been arranged at the workplace of the staff member and other affected areas. All other staff members at the same unit have been tested negative for COVID-19.

November 26, 2020

On 26 November 2020, we were informed that one staff member from the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine had been in close contact with a non-HKU person on 23 November who is a confirmed case of COVID-19 infection. The staff member was sent to a quarantine centre on the same day, with no symptoms of COVID-19 shown so far and test results are pending.

November 23, 2020

On 23 November 2020, we were informed that one student from the Faculty of Architecture had been in close contact with a non-HKU person who is a confirmed case of COVID-19 infection. The student has shown no symptoms of COVID-19 so far and the student’s test result is still pending.
 
The student attended an architectural activity at Knowles building with two tutors and nine other students on 20 November. All people had been wearing face masks, and social distancing and use of alcohol rub were strictly followed at all times.

November 23, 2020

On 23 November 2020, we were informed that one staff member from the Faculty of Arts had been in close contact with a non-HKU person who is a confirmed case of COVID-19 infection. The staff member was sent to a quarantine centre on 22 November, with no symptoms of COVID-19 shown so far and awaiting to take a test. The staff had been teaching classes on MB 237 and CYC P1 every Monday and Wednesday respectively. All students wore masks, had temperature checked and sat with a very good social distancing in a spacious lecture theatre.

July 27, 2020

On 27 July 2020, we were informed that one staff member from the Faculty of Social Sciences had been in close contact with a non-HKU person who is a confirmed case of COVID-19 infection. The HKU staff member lives with the confirmed case. The staff went to work on campus on 22 July and had contact with another staff member at the Faculty office. The staff had shown no symptoms of COVID-19 so far. The staff will be sent to a quarantine site by the CHP in the coming days.

July 16, 2020

On 16 July 2020, we were informed that one staff from the Safety Office had been in close contact with a non-HKU person who is a confirmed case of COVID-19 infection.

The HKU staff had a meal together with the confirmed case on 12 July.

The HKU staff went to work on campus from 13 to 15 July and had brief contacts with ten other staff in the Safety Office. We have requested the staff concerned and the ten colleagues not to come to work from 17 July onwards until further notice.

The staff member concerned is waiting for further instructions from CHP on testing and possible quarantine.

Additional cleaning and disinfection have been arranged at the workplace of the staff and other affected areas.

July 11, 2020

On 11 July 2020, we were informed that two staff from the Estates Office had been in close contact with a non-HKU person who is a confirmed case of COVID-19 infection.

The two HKU staff had lunch with the confirmed case on 6 July, who was tested positive on 10 July 2020. The two HKU staff are tested for COVID-19 on 11 July 2020, results are pending. 

The two staff will be placed under compulsory quarantine at a Government quarantine centre until 20 July 2020. 

Additional cleaning and disinfection will be arranged at the workplace of the two staff.
